Pg. 316-317. Jerome formation. In Devonic time the northwest and northeast areas of deposition were separated by a land barrier toward which limestones grade into arenaceous sediments containing ARTHRODIRAN fishes. The sequence in northwest area is altogether different from that of southeast Arizona, and Jerome formation is proposed for the former.

Pg. 495-500. Jerome formation. Stoyanow gave very detailed section of his Jerome formation at Jerome, aggregating 505 feet, and stated that it is unconformably overlain by Redwall limestone (Mississippian) and underlain by Tapeats sandstone (Cambrian). The section is almost wholly limestone. A 4-foot bed of sandstone lying 146 feet above base at Jerome is called ARTHRODIAN sandstone, and said to be a valuable marker. "The name 'Sycamore Creek formation' was suggested for this sandstone in 1925. As its thickness varies considerably and it gradually thins out to west of Mazatzal land, it may be more appropriately termed Sycamore sandstone member of Jerome formation." Stoyanow states that in headwaters of East Verde River the ARTHRODIAN sandstone is made up of a pink, compact, basal sandstone, succeeded upward by white, pink, and mottled arenaceous limestone, brick-red sandstone, that the upper arenaceous part of jerome formation contains Upper Devonian fauna that correlates it with Martin limestone.

Reduced to member of Martin Formation. Typical section [stratotype] is in small canyon 1.1 mi northeast of Jerome, AZ in sec 4, T16N, R2E. Is extended east to near Holbrook, AZ and southeast to near Globe. Is divided into three informal members. Described in detail throughout area of occurrence, including fossil lists, depositional history, and reference sections. Is of Late Devonian age.
