Soc

Summary:

Pg. 529, 530, 532, 539. Jago River Formation. Formerly called informal Jago River beds. Consists of conglomerate, sandstone, siltstone, shale, coal; maximum 2861 m thick. Includes (descending) 215 m thick "D" [unit] of Paleocene age; 679 m thick "C" [unit] of Paleocene age; 1685 m thick "B" [unit] of Late Cretaceous age; and 282 m thick "A" [unit] of Late Cretaceous age. Strata distinct from coeval sediments in northern Alaska (Colville Group) and northwest Canada (Moose Channel and Reindeer Formations) [See also Moose Channel]. Age is Late Cretaceous to Paleocene, based on fossils (pollen, plants).
Type section: exposure along east bank of Sabbath Creek, 47 m south of Barter Island and village of Kaktovik, northeastern AK. Named from Jago River.

Summary:

Pg. 526. Jago River Formation. Predominantly nonmarine sandstone, conglomerate, siltstone, and shale with thin beds of coal. No pyroclastics observed. Anomalously thick. Overlies informal Cretaceous Arctic Creek unit (new). Correlates with Moose Channel Formation of Canada. Age is Late Cretaceous to Paleocene, based on fossils (pollen, plants).
