Named for Indian John Hill as upper member of Kittitas Drift (new). Type locality designated as till facies: side of Indian John Hill at 635 m altitude, NW/4 SW/4 sec.3 T19N R16E; outwash facies: borrow pit on north side of Indian John Hill, NW/4 SE/4 sec.3 T19N R16E, upper Yakima River drainage basin, Kittitas Co, WA. [Name, Indian John Member, first used by Porter (1975).] Consists of gravel and till moraines and outwash. Is 100 m thick. Overlies Swauk Prairie Member (new) (Kittitas Drift). Underlies Lakedale Drift. Is Pleistocene age.

Indian John Member of Kittitas Drift of Porter (1975, 1976) reinterpreted to be phase of accumulation during single glaciation. Name abandoned and redesignated as informal Indian John phase of Kittitas Drift.
