Summary:

Named as member (of 2) of Kemik Sandstone (redefined) on north side of Brooks Range. Type section designated on upper Katakturuk River in Ignek Valley (NE/4 SE/4 sec.3 T2N R27E), Mt. Michelson quad, northern AK. Is very fine to fine-grained, moderate to well sorted, subangular to subrounded sandstone, about 100 ft thick. In Ignek and Canning River valley overlies Kingak Shale. Underlies pebble shale unit. Microfauna (listed in table) indicate Early Cretaceous age (Hauterivian to Barremian and Neocomian).
