Summary:

Name Humpback gneiss introduced in this report for a light-gray rock of sedimentary origin occurring along Humpback Mountain in Burke Co., northwestern NC. Unit is composed mostly of fragments of feldspar and quartz in matrix of secondary micas, chlorites, and other metamorphic minerals. A thin yellowish clay schist is commonly interbedded with the more coarse and thick-bedded materials. Age given as Precambrian (Archean?).
