Named as 5th from uppermost member (of 8 named members) of Schoonover Formation (new). Name taken from Harrington Creek 2 mi west of exposure in hills along Jack Creek, Bull Run quad, Elko Co, NV. Shown on geologic map of portions of Bull Run and Wildhorse quads. Consists of very thin bedded gray to black argillaceous lutites and thin almost black cherts with some quartzose siltite and dark-gray limestone beds. Is complexly folded. Thickness is about 450 ft. Overlies Mikes Creek Member; underlies Cap Winn Member (both new and of Schoonover Formation). Single spiriferoid brachiopod was found in black, secondary chert thought to be Silurian to Mississippian by G.A. Cooper (personal commun., 1958). Age is Mississippian.

Sample of radiolarian chert from Harrington/Mikes Creek Member of Schoonover Formation collected at 41 deg 32.09'N, 116 deg 3.67'W, was found to be Late(?) Mississippian age. Chert unit sampled is between basal and structurally higher thrust [of Schoonover sequence].
