Summary:

Named as basal member of Coconino Sandstone for exposures on southeast face of Harding Point, sec 28, T19N, R6E (its type section), Coconino Co, Mountainaire quad, AZ, Plateau sedimentary province. Extends throughout the Sedona-Oak Creek Canyon area. Recognized from east side of Sycamore Canyon southeast to Beaver Creek area and north to Flagstaff area. Consists of about 600 ft of cross-stratified, quartz sandstone of eolian origin. Overlies Sycamore Pass Member (named) of Schnebly Hill Formation (named). Underlies Cave Spring Member (named) of Coconino Sandstone. Tongues into Toroweap Formation to west. The lower contact is gradational and intertonguing. The upper contact is a sharp horizontal surface marked by prominent zone of vegetation called the "green line." Complete sections difficult to measure. Forms vertical cliffs. Of Early Permian, Leonardian age. Nomenclature chart. Cross sections.
