Summary:

Name Halihan Hill Bed is here proposed for the coral-rich bed that defines the base of the Otsego Member of the Mount Marion Formation (Hamilton Group) in southeastern NY. Cooper (1933) referred to this bed as MERISTELLA-coral Zone. A high-diversity fauna dominated by rugose corals characterizes this bed. Brachiopods are also abundant and bryozoans common. Thickness at the type section along Rte 209 south of Halihan Hill is 50 cm. Overlies an unfossiliferous shale at this locality and a massive sandstone at East Berne assigned to the Berne Member of the Mount Marion. The Halihan Hill is one of four formally named beds in this report. The Dave Elliott Bed lies within the upper part of the Berne Member, while the Katsbaan and Timmerman Hill Beds like above the Halihan Hill in the lower part of the Otsego. Age is Middle Devonian.
