Summary:

Revised, informally named Hagarstown beds of Jacobs and Lineback (1969) included as formal member of Glasford Formation (new) in south-central IL (Illinois basin). Reportedly named for Hagarstown, Fayette Co, IL, 5 mi west of type section, the Hickory Ridge Section (Jacobs and Lineback, 1969, p. 20), SW NW sec 30, T6N, R1E, Fayette Co. Consists of gravelly till, poorly sorted gravel, well-sorted gravel, and sand. Is probably more than 100 ft thick locally. Lies stratigraphically above Vandalia Till Member of Glasford and contains Sangamon Soil at top. Is commonly overlain by Wisconsinan loesses. Is the material of the elongate ridges, referred to as the "ridged drift," and of the sheet of dominantly waterlaid sediments between the ridges. Is in either the early Jubileean or late Monican Substage of the Illinoian Stage.
