Summary:

Named the Hagan shale member of the Clinch sandstone in southwestern VA and northeastern TN for Hagan, Lee Co., VA. Consists of green shale with interbeds of fine-grained sandstone and siliceous sandstone; massive sandstone 1 to 2 feet thick at base. Thickness is 70 to 77 feet. Overlies Sequatchie formation and underlies Poor Ridge Valley member of Clinch. The Hagan is of Early Silurian age.
