Type region [area] is same as for Careaga sandstone --on north flank of Purisima Hills, south of Careaga station of now abandoned Pacific Coast RR, Santa Barbara Co, CA. Consists of 2 parts: lower part of coarse-grained soft sandstone and conglomerate and upper part of coarse-grained soft sandstone. Thickness ranges from 25 to 425 ft. Overlies Cebada fine-grained member (new) of Careaga sandstone and in places overlies Sisquoc formation. Underlies Paso Robles formation. Age is late Pliocene based on megafauna.
