Summary:

Named for outcrops in Goshoot Canyon, T. 11 S., R. 12 W., west central part Black Rock Hills, Juab Co, UT in the Great Basin province. Type section measured on ridge on north side of canyon where section 386 ft present above Engelmann formation (new) and below Gilson dolomite (new). Also exposed in several disconnected bands between north end of map and Engelmann Canyon and in low hills on west side Dugway Range into Tooele Co. Extends north of map area. Consists of light to dark gray dolomite interbedded with brown-weathering dolomitic and calcareous fine- to medium-grained, light-gray to white, locally cross-bedded quartzite. Base placed at base of quartzite in a series of quartzite beds. Another section 392 ft thick measured in Buckhorn Canyon, Dugway Range. Fossiliferous (corals, brachiopods, stromatoporoids, gastropods). Of Late Devonian age. Geologic map.
