Summary:

Name is credited to J.F. Meeder (Univ. of Miami, Ph.D. dissertation) who mapped and identified reefal assemblages in Collier and Lee Cos., FL. Fifteen of the rock types he identified occur within the Tamiami Formation. Reefal material varies widely. Meeder did not formally define the Golden Gate Reef Member in terms of the stratigraphy and the relationships with other major lithic units. It is considered to be within the top of the unnamed limestone facies.
