Summary:

Named for exposures in Gingrass Draw, secs 5 and 8, T2N, R5E, its type locality, Meade Co, SD in the Midcontinent region. Occurs as linear strip in west-central to south-central part of quad extending into Lawrence Co to west and Pennington Co to south, and as a unit younger than the Buck Mountain Quartzite (new) and older than the Hay creek Greenstone (new) of the Windy Flats Group (new), all of middle Precambrian age. Consists of pelitic brown to gray slate. Some thin quartzite layers in lower part. Of middle Precambrian age.
