Summary:

Named the Gilman quartzite in southern Quebec and northwestern VT for Gilman, Quebec, CAN. Consists of light-gray or buff quartzite that weathers to a lighter color. Contains a coarse grit at base and beds of conglomerate near top. Thickness is 3000 feet. Overlies the West Sutton slate and conformably underlies the Dunham dolomite. The Gilman is of Early Cambrian age.
