Summary:

[Named] for sequence of volcanic rocks restricted to Gillis Range in area of Hawthorne, Mineral Co, NV. Formerly grouped with Excelsior Formation (Muller and Ferguson, 1939). Consists of volcanic flow and pyroclastic rocks interbedded with limestone. Virtually all rocks are porphyritic. Thickness is over 1000 m. Thrusted over Luning Formation. May represent an overlap assemblage on Golconda allochthon formed in Sonoma Orogeny. Limestone is of early Middle Triassic age.
