Summary:

[Probably named for Gastineau Peak, Juneau district, southeastern AK.] Consists of andesitic lava at the base with local lenses of slate, overlain by calcareous slate containing marine fossils of Late Triassic age, above which is andesitic tuff overlain by slate. Thickness is probably 5000 ft. Apparently conformably overlies Perseverance slate (new). Apparently conformably underlies Thane group (new). Age is Late Triassic based on fossils from the slate. List of fossils identified by J.B. Reeside, Jr. is included in report.

Summary:

Gastineau Volcanic Group is revised to Gastineau Volcanics because unit is not divisible into formally named formation-rank units. Age is revised from Late Triassic to: Permian(?) to Late Triassic.
