Summary:

Fort Fisher coquina was described by Carter and others (1988) at Fort Fisher and at Snows Cut. Several wells and outcrops in southern New Hanover Co. contain this distinct unit. Lithology is a coarse- to fine-grained, well rounded, pebbly shelly sandstone/ coquina with calcareous cement. Unit is differentiated in one cross-section of this report, but is included in the Pliocene/ Pleistocene (undifferentiated ) strata in the other five. Underlies surficial sand.
