Summary:

Pg. 39, 50 (table 1), 72, pl. 1. Flat Creek coal member of Bond formation (new) of McLeansboro group. Name applied to coal member stratigraphically above Bunje limestone member (new) and below Witt coal member (new). Thickness about 1 foot. Name credited to J.A. Simon (unpub. ms.). Recognized in central and southwestern Illinois. Age is Pennsylvanian. Presentation of new rock-stratigraphic classification of Pennsylvanian of Illinois. Cyclical classification is retained but is entirely independent of rock-stratigraphic classification.
Type locality: in NE/4 SE/4 sec. 24, T. 6 N., R. 5 W., Bond Co., IL. Named from exposures along Flat Creek.
