Pg. 9, 10; J.M. Weller, 1942, Illinois Acad. Scl. Trans., v. 35, no. 2, p. 145 (table 1). Flannigan cyclothem in McLeansboro group. In sequence, occurs below Macoupin cyclothem and above Shoal Creek cyclothem. Thickness about 26 feet. Age is Pennsylvanian.
Named from exposures in Flannigan Twp., Hamilton Co., southeastern IL.

Presentation of new rock-stratigraphic classification of Pennsylvanian strata in Illinois; cyclical classification is independent of rock-stratigraphic classification.
