Summary:

Pg. 39, 50 (table 1), pl. 1. Flannigan coal member of Bond Formation (new) of McLeansboro group. Assigned member status in Bond formation. Occurs above Mount Carmel sandstone member and below Reel limestone member. Coal named by Newton and Weller (1937, Illinois Geol. Survey Rpt. Inv., no. 45). Age is Pennsylvanian. Presentation of a new rock-stratigraphic classification of Pennsylvanian strata in Illinois.
Type locality: Flannigan Twp., in T. 6 S., R. 5 E., Hamilton Co., IL. Occurs in southeastern and eastern Illinois.
