Extended into Lucas Co, IA on the Iowa shelf from MO as the basal member of the newly named Mouse Creek Formation, basal formation of Marmaton Group of Des Moines Supergroup. Overlies Mulky Coal Member of Swede Hollow Formation (new) of Cherokee Group of Des Moines Supergroup. Underlies Blackjack Creek Limestone Member, upper member of Mouse Creek. Consists of 2 ft of dark gray shale with abundant brown phosphate nodules that grades upward into 2.9 ft of green-brown sparsely fossiliferous mudstone at type section of Mouse Creek.
