Summary:

Pg. 439. Emery sandstone member of Mancos shale. Brown sandstone, 0 to 800 feet thick, lying 600 feet below top of Mancos shale at south end of Wasatch Plateau, and 1,000 feet below top north of Emery. May be equivalent to Masuk sandstone of Henry Mountains. Overlies middle shale member of Mancos; underlies upper shale member of Mancos. Present in Wasatch Plateau and Book Cliffs. Fossiliferous (ammonites, bivalves). Age is Late Cretaceous.
Named from exposures southwest of town of Emery, Emery Co., central eastern UT.

Summary:

Is one of five members of Upper Cretaceous Mancos Shale mapped only in northeast part of quad, in the Henry basin, east of Waterpocket fold, Garfield Co, UT in the Paradox basin. Mapped limit represents the southwest limit for the member. Is 120 to 300 ft thick. Overlies Blue Gate Member; underlies Masuk Member (term "Shale" removed from both member names) of Mancos. Is equivalent to upper part of Straight Cliffs Formation of Kaiparowits Plateau to south in quad.

Summary:

Garley Canyon Sandstone Member of Mancos Shale reduced in stratigraphic rank as Garley Canyon Beds of Emery Sandstone Member of Mancos Shale in the northwest part of the Paradox basin, western Book Cliffs, and on the Wasatch Plateau of the Wasatch uplift. Garley Canyon is lithologically continuous with the Emery of the Wasatch plateau. Palynomorph fossils identified in NE1/4 NW1/4 sec 36, T13S, R9E, Carbon Co, UT in the Uinta basin. Of Santonian age; of middle and late Santonian age in Sanpete Valley, Sanpete Co on the Wasatch uplift, in the west; of late Santonian age in San Arroyo Canyon, Grand Co, Paradox basin, in the east.

Summary:

Formerly mapped by Hunt and others (1946) as a member of the Mancos Shale above the Blue Gate Shale Member and beneath the Masuk Shale Member of the Mancos in the Henry Mountain area, Garfield Co, UT in the Paradox basin. Name "Emery" was incorrectly used for this sandstone. Emery replaced by new name Muley Canyon Sandstone Member of Mancos in this area.
