Summary:

Named the Effna limestone for Effna, Bland Co., VA. Consists of mainly white to light-gray coarse-grained shell limestone with some pinkish beds. Pyrite occurs as nests and stringers in 15 foot zone about 70 feet above base of formation. Unit is 221 feet thick at the type section and decreases to 60 feet south of Ceres. The Effna overlies the Lincolnshire limestone and underlies the Whitesburg limestone along northwest base of Walker Mountain in southwestern VA.
