Black, rhythmically layered, thin-bedded phyllites and brown- to buff-weathering carbonate-bearing siltstone beds. Apparent thickness 92 m (300 feet). Is top formation of Conanicut Group. [= unit b of Skehan and others, 1976, NEIGC 68th Ann. Mtg., p. 447-471; = unit D of Skehan and others, 1978, Geology, v. 6, no. 11, p. 694-698, and Murray and Skehan, 1979, IGCP Project no. 27 Caledonide orogen.] Overlies Fort Burnside Formation of Conanicut Group. Fossils. Age is considered Early(?) Ordovician, based on preliminary identification of acritarchs (M. Fisher, personal commun., 1989) and lithologic resemblence to Halifax Formation of Nova Scotia, Canada.
