Summary:

Pg. 30 (table 1), 37-38. Dunn Creek slate, basal formation of Paint River group (new) of Animikie series. Consists of sequence of siltstones and slates; in type area contains one or more layers of slaty sideritic iron-formation; in uppermost part inlcudes newly defined Wauseca pyritic member. Probable maximum thickness about 800 feet; probable minimum thickness about 400 feet. Underlies Riverton iron-formation (new); overlies Badwater greenstone (new) of Baraga group (new). Age is middle Precambrian (Animikie Series). Report includes stratigraphic sequence chart.
Type area: eastern Iron Co., northwestern MI. Named from exposures near Dunn Creek, south of Crystal Falls, eastern Iron Co., Northern Peninsula, northwestern MI (Lake Superior region).

Dunn Creek Slate of Paint River Group of Marquette Range Supergroup (new; replaces †Animikie series of James, 1958, south of Lake Superior, in Michigan and Wisconsin). Present in Iron River-Crystal Falls district, northwestern Michigan. Underlies Riverton Iron-Formation of Paint River Group; overlies Badwater Greenstone of Baraga Group. Age is middle Precambrian.
