Summary:

Named as the upper member (of six) of Blackhawk formation for exposures in nearly vertical cliffs of Mt. Elliot east of Desert, siding of the DRGWRR, T20N, R14E, Emery Co, UT in the Paradox basin. No type locality designated. Overlies Grassy member (new) of Blackhawk formation. Underlies Castlegate sandstone. Consists of medium-grained, thin-bedded to massive sandstone about 70 ft thick and coal-bearing rocks 50 to 80 ft thick. Has many thin unminable lenses of coal. The uppermost of nine bar sandstones in the Desert tongues into Mancos shale. Cross sections. Identified east of the Green River into adjacent Grand Co. Late Cretaceous age.
