Named for Desert Mountain Parkway. Type locality 1.5 mi west of Pima Rd and 0.25 mi north of Cave Creek Rd, Wildcat Hill quad, northern Maricopa Co., central AZ. Extends from eastern edge to south-central part of Carefree basin. Tan to gray thin veneer, consists of unconsolidated, moderately to poorly sorted and bedded, grus-rich gravel (52%), sand (40%), silt and clay (8%) (Pewe, 1985). Locally up to 20% basalt, meta-argillite, and (or) rhyolite subangular clasts from nearby sources. Found on gently southwest-dipping slope and cut by many small washes. Easily excavated. Total thickness varies from 3 to 33 feet. Grades laterally into Pleistocene Horny Toad Terrace deposits (new, [informal]). Lies unconformably over Miocene volcanic rocks and late Miocene and early Pliocene Sombrero and Grapevine Members of Carefree Formation (all new). Thought to be same age as Pleistocene Cahava Ranch Terrace deposits (new, [informal]) and Pleistocene Schoolhouse Glacis Alluvium (new).
