Summary:

Cutting Hill Formation, basal formation of Bascom subgroup [informal] of Beekmantown Group. Cutting Formation of Cady (1945) stratigraphically extended to include (descending): Smith Basin Member (="member 1 of Division D" of Brainerd and Seely, 1890), East Shoreham Member (new), and Winchell Creek Member. Thickness 430 feet (taken from Brainerd and Seeley, 1890). Overlies Whitehall Dolostone and underlies Lemon Fair Formation (new). Equivalent of Great Meadows Formation of New York. Age is Early Ordovician. Renamed it Cutting Hill in order to distinguish it from Cady's original formation.
