Summary:

Named as lower formation (of 2) of Ricardo Group for Cudahy Camp in Last Chance Canyon, El Paso basin, Kern Co, CA where type locality (Dibblee, 1967) is exposed. Rocks were formerly members 1 and 2 of Ricardo Formation of Dibblee (1952, 1967) and Black Mountain Basalt. Divided into 5 lithological units and Black mountain Basalt [Member?]. Consists of conglomerate, tuff, tuff-breccia, andesite, and basalt. Is 350 m thick. Unconformably overlies Goler Formation. Disconformably underlies Dove Spring Formation (new) of Ricardo Group. Age is early and middle Miocene based on radiometric ages ranging from 18.1 +/-1.2 Ma to 15.1 +/-0.5 Ma.
