Summary:

Named Cowbell Member of Borden Formation. Consists chiefly of thick resistant units of gray, brownish-weathering indistinctly bedded siltstone separated by thin discontinuous units of less resistant gray shaly siltstone. Thickness ranges from 0 to 175 ft. Underlain by Nancy Member and overlain by Nada Member of Borden Formation north of about 4 mi south of Berea, Madison Co., KY. South of this latitude, the Cowbell splits into two tongues of siltstone, the Roundstone Bed and the higher Conway Cut Bed, which extend southward enclosed by the Nancy Member of the Borden Formation. Age is Early Mississippian.
