Coventry phase of Waits River limestone. Youngest phase of Waits River limestone. Is darker than the other 2 phases of that formation (the Washington phase and the typical phase), more carbonaceous, sometimes shaly, and never susceptible of polish. Traverses Irasburg, Coventry, and Newport, and dips uniformly to west. [Type locality is in Coventry, Orleans County, Irasburg quadrangle, northeastern Vermont], where it is uniformly of dark color, often pyritiferous, and compact. No fossils. Age is Ordovician.
