Summary:

Named as formation in the Chispa Summit-San Carlos region, western Jeff Davis Co, TX in the Permian basin of Trans-Pecos TX. Type locality is on the Colquitt ranch below Chispa Summit, Jeff Davis Co. Apparently named for Colquitt ranch. Is about 1,200 ft thick. Overlies Chispa Summit formation (new). Underlies Taylor clays. Between Chispa Summit and the abandoned San Carlos coal mine, is an almost entirely clay facies of the Austin formation, with small intercalated bodies of thin limestone flags. Is chalkier to the east; more crystalline to the west. Age is Coniacian and early Santonian (Late Cretaceous) as indicated in table on p. 271.
