Summary:

Upper regressive beds of the Chowan River Formation of the Chesapeake Group in the Coastal Plain of NC are here named the Colerain Beach Member. It consists of thickly bedded trough cross-bedded sand and silt with lenses of fossils. Unconformably overlies the Edenhouse Member of the Chowan River; sharply and unconformably underlies the Windsor Formation. Age is late Pliocene.
