Named as a member of Mahantango Formation. Probably named for Clearville, Clearville quad, Bedford Co., south-central PA. Replaces abandoned Chaneysville Sandstone in subsurface. Consists of siltstone and sandstone. Underlies Pokejoy Member. Age is Middle Devonian.
