Rohn, Oscar, 1900, A reconnaissance of the Chitna River and the Skolai Mountains, Alaska: U.S. Geological Survey Annual Report, 21, pt. 2, p. 393-445.

Summary:

Exposed at junction of Nizina and Chitistone Rivers; therefore referred to as Chitistone limestone in Nizina-Tanana section, Skolai Range, southern AK. Shown on geologic sketch map of Wrangell Mountains and adjacent area. Consists of massive bed of dark-brown, dense, aphanitic limestone that weathers gray. Is often brecciated. Thickness is 500 ft. Overlies Nikolai greenstone (new). Underlies McCarthy Creek shales [later McCarthy shales] (new). It is almost certain that Chitistone limestone is as old as Carboniferous or older based on stratigraphic relations. [Note author refers to Chitistone limestone as Nizina limestone, p.431, 535.]

Summary:

Type section [designated] in Nizina Valley (Moffit and Capps, 1911). Geographically extended to western part of Chitina Valley on tributaries of Kuskulana and Kotsina Rivers. Upper part of Chitistone limestone of Rohn (1900) is renamed Nizina limestone thus restricting Chitistone to lower massive bluish-gray limestone of 1800 to 2000 ft thickness. Correlation chart and lists of fossils from Chitistone indicate age is Late Triassic (Carnian).

Summary:

Paper provides detailed stratigraphic and petrographic information on carbonate rocks of lower part of Chitistone Limestone. Implications relevant to ore formation of copper sulfide deposits in Chitistone are mentioned.
