Named for Central Valley, Orange Co., southeastern NY. Consists of white-weathering, mottled violet, fossiliferous sandstone with a 1-foot bed of white-weathering chert at top. Thickness about 25 ft. Lower contact covered; may rest on beds of New Scotland age or on pre-New Scotland, Upper Silurian strata. Contact with overlying Connelly conglomerate is abrupt. Age is Early Devonian.
