Summary:

Named as an upper member of Coconino Sandstone for exposures in Oak Creek Canyon 600 m southeast of Cave Spring near sec corner of secs 27, 28, 33, 34, T19N, R6E (its type section), Coconino Co, AZ in the Munds Park quad, Plateau sedimentary province. Is fully exposed and accessible. Overlies the newly named Harding Point Sandstone Member of the Coconino; lower contact is a sharp horizontal surface marked by a prominent zone of vegetation designated the "green zone." Tongues into Toroweap Formation in the Sycamore Canyon-Sedona area. Underlies Kaibab Formation; upper contact is sharp and marked by appearance of sandy dolomite. Is a flat-bedded quartz sandstone of eolian origin. Ranges from 180 ft (near Buck Ridge) to 300 ft thick (at Cave Spring). Extends throughout the Sedona area. Suggested western extent is Buck Ridge. Cannot be distinguished southeast of Beaver Creek. Cross sections. Nomenclature chart. Of Early Permian, Leonardian age.
