Summary:

Named for Cattaraugus Co., southwestern NY. Consists of red and green shales with flaggy sands. Thickness is 200 ft. Underlies Mount Herman or Salamanca conglomerate; overlies Wolf Creek conglomerate. Distinguished from Catskill beds by paleontologic evidence.
