Summary:

Cary formation of Farrar (1985) described here as foliated, medium-grained, felsic metavolcanic rocks. Regarded as part of the Carolina terrane. Samples from the Triangle quarry of the Wake Stone Corp were dated. Three discordant fractions of euhedral, colorless to light pink zircon yield 207Pb/206Pb ages of 573, 574, and 579 and an upper intercept age of 575+/-12 Ma, interpreted as the time of crystallization.
