Hayes, W.C. (chairman), 1961, Guidebook to the geology of the St. Francois Mountain area: Missouri Division of Geological Survey and Water Resources Report of Investigations, no. 26, 137 p.

Summary:

Carver Creek granite porphyry (new) of Musco group (new). Briefly summarized in reports by W.C. Hayes and J.A. Martin, p. 39, 40, and W.C. Hayes, p. 83 (table 1), this volume. New names are credited to Tolman and Robertson (in prep.) [1969, Missouri Div. Geol. Survey Water Res. Rpt. Inv., no. 44 (Contrib. to Precambrian Geol., no. 1)]. Is sill-like mass which has been intruded into Stouts Creek rhyolite. Consists of fine-grained granite porphyry with green and purple mottled groundmass. Age is Precambrian.
Occurs in St. Francois Mountain area. Carver Creek is in T. 33 N., R. 3 E., Iron Co., southeastern MO.

Summary:

Pg. 39. Carver Creek granite porphyry of Musco group. A sill-like body of very fine-grained granite porphyry with green and purple mottled microgranitic groundmass. Contains few dark pink orthoclase phenocrysts. Exposed in St. Francois Mountains, southeastern Missouri. Thickness about 100 feet along Carver Creek. Intrudes Stouts Creek rhyolite of Van East group. Formed during earlier phase (of 2) of batholithic intrusion. Age is Precambrian.
Origin of name not stated but probably named from exposures along Carver Creek at base of Hogan Mountain, in secs. 27, 28, and 29, T. 33 N., R. 3 E., Iron Co., southeastern MO. (Type locality not designated.)

Summary:

Carver Creek Granite Porphyry, one of four Precambrian Y hypabyssal rock units assigned to the /St. Francois Mountains Intrusive Suite (revised). [Previously assigned to Musco Group by Tolman and Robertson (1969); status of Musco not discussed.] Present in St. Francois Mountains, southeast Missouri (Midcontinent region). Older than Munger Granite Porphyry (revised) of St. Francois Mountains; younger than Brown Mountain Rhyolite Porphyry (revised) of St. Francois Mountains. Nomenclature listed in table 1.
[Conflicts with nomenclature guidelines (ACSN, 1970; NACSN, 1983, 2005, 2021): name St. Francois Mountains applied concurrently to two different units in same area.]

Summary:

Carver Creek granite porphyry. Mapped undivided with Munger granite prophyry as "Hypabyssal Intrusives of Western St. Francois Mountains" in southeastern Missouri (Midcontinent region). Map unit represents small intrusive bodies in area of Taum Sauk Mountain. Carver Creek and Munger are similar in major and trace element chemical compositions. Shown on map explanation to be older than Graniteville granite. However, authors state that Munger has yielded zircon U-Pb age of 1380 Ma which is younger than all other rocks dated (1485 Ma) in the study area (citing Bickford and Mose, 1975, GSA Spec. Paper 165). Age is Proterozoic.
[Authors' intentions are unclear as to which, if any, of the geologic units discussed should have formal status.]
