Summary:

Named as upper member of the Zia Sand for Canada Pilares, Sandoval Co, NM in San Juan basin. Type section designated in sec 12, T12N, R1W and sec 7, T12N, R1E. Overlies unconformably the reddish silt sand and clay of Chamisa Mesa Member of Zia. Underlies pink sand of rocks equivalent to Pojoaque Member of Tesuque Formation. Composed of interbedded red clay and pink sandstone about 29 m thick. Geologic map. Cross sections. Is mostly a floodplain deposit of early Hemingfordian, Miocene age.
