Summary:

Named for Byers Canyon. Composite Type section: Clan Alpine Mountains, 39 deg 45'N, 117 deg 45'W, Churchill Co., NV. Is second lowest formation in Clan Alpine sequence. Composed of pelitic mudstone, and laminate with minor limestone, sandstone, and conglomerate. Is over 500 m thick. Overlies undifferentiated Triassic rocks; underlies Dyer Canyon Formation, all in Clan Alpine sequence. Is Triassic age.
