Summary:

Pg. 43, 52 (table 2), pl. 1. Briar Hill cyclothem. Proposed for unit formerly termed Crab Orchard cyclothem. Occurs above St. David cyclothem and below Brereton cyclothem. Age is Pennsylvanian. Report presents new rock-stratigraphic classification of Pennsylvanian strata in Illinois. Cyclical classification retained but is entirely independent of rock-stratigraphic classification; includes rocks also assigned to Briar Hill (No. 5) coal member of Carbondale formation of Kewanee group (new).
Named from Briar Hill near village of DeKoven, Union Co., western KY.
