Summary:

Name Boyds Creek mafic Complex introduced in this report for one of two large mafic-ultramafic complexes mapped within the Dadeville Complex in east-central AL. Smaller than the Smith Mountain Complex. Unit is the central core of the Boyds Creek synform in southern Chambers Co. Consists principally of massive amphibolite, layered hornblende-migmatite, metagabbroic and noritic rocks, and hornblendite pyroxenite. Some of the norites and gabbros show little metamorphic alteration. Exposures are poor and field relationships are not clear.
