Table on p. 416 (Geological section of the Coast Ranges of California in the vicinity of the bay of San Francisco). Bonita sandstone. 1,400 feet thick, top formation of Franciscan. Summary:

Bonita sandstone of Franciscan group. Massive, obscurely bedded arkosic sandstone of dark greenish gray color and medium texture, with subordinate amounts of shale and conglomerate. Thickness about 1,400 feet. Top formation of Franciscan group. Conformably overlies Ingleside chert. [Age is Jurassic(?).]
Named from exposures at Point Bonita, on north shore of Golden Gate, Tamalpais 15-min quadrangle, Marin Co., San Francisco region, western CA.

Summary:

†Bonita Sandstone of Franciscan Group of Lawson (1914); later †Bonita Sandstone Member of Franciscan Formation. Abandoned because writer was unable to use beds as stratigraphic markers as suggested by Lawson. Age of Franciscan given as Jurassic and Cretaceous in part based on single ammonite DOUVILLEICERAS sp. (citing Schlocker and others, 1954).
