Summary:

Bevos group (new). Briefly summarized in reports by W.C. Hayes, p. 8 (strat. column), 81, 82, 83 (table 1), this volume. New names are credited to Tolman and Robertson (in prep.) [1969, Missouri Div. Geol. Survey Water Res. Rpt. Inv., no. 44 (Contrib. to Precambrian Geol., no. 1)]. Includes Breadtray [Bread Tray] granite (new), Brown Mountain rhyolite porphyry (new), Butler Hill granite (new), Graniteville granite, Knoblick [Knob Lick] granite, and Silvermine granite. Tolman, C.F., and Robertson, F., 1969, Exposed Precambrian rocks in southeast Missouri: Missouri Division of Geological Survey and Water Resources Report of Investigations, no. 44, 68 p., (incl. geologic map), Also issued as Contrib. Precambrian Geol., no. 1

Summary:

Bevos group. Comprises bulk of granites found in St. Francois Mountains, southeastern Missouri. Subdivided into (oldest to youngest): Silvermine granite, Knoblick granite, Butler Hill granite, and correlative units Breadtray granite, Graniteville granite, and Brown Mountain rhyolite porphyry. Granites are red, pink, or gray, and fine- to coarse-grained. Formed during later phase (of 2) of batholithic intrusion and appear to have differentiated in place. Younger than Musco group, which formed during earlier phase of batholithic intrusion; older than post-batholithic rocks. Age is Precambrian.
Named from exposures on Bevos Mountain, in sec. 36, T. 34 N., R. 5 E., Madison Co., southeastern MO. (Type locality not designated.)
[GNC remark (February 29, 2008): It appears †Bevos group has not been used to include these rocks since this publication. Considered abandoned.]
