Summary:

Named for exposures on lower part of Bettles River, where mountains formed by unit rise steeply 2000 ft or more above river. Series is capping rock over an area of about 2000 sq mi of upper waters of Chandlar [Chandalar] and Koyukuk Rivers, northern AK. Consists of heavy-bedded limestone or marble with interbedded mica-schist. Is younger than Lake quartzite-schist (new). [Age not given.]

Summary:

[Bettles "series" of Schrader (1900) accepted.] Series on upper Chandlar [Chandalar] River correlated with Skajit formation (of Late Silurian age) on John River, northern AK. Bettles overlies group of schists called "Rapid", "Lake", and amphibolite schists.

Summary:

Limestone of Chandalar district, originally called "Bettles series" by Schrader (1900) is now believed to be identical to Skajit limestone which name has long been used in place of system name.
