Mellen, F.F., 1939, Winston County [Mississippi] mineral resources; Part 1, Geology: Mississippi Geological Survey Bulletin, no. 38, 169 p.

Summary:

Named Betheden formation for Betheden, Winston Co., MS. Unit includes all residual material at top of Midway and below Midway-Wilcox unconformity. Consists of deposits of bauxite, kaolin, bauxitix, and kaolinitic clays and the overlying lignite. Thickness is approximately 25 feet. It gradationally overlies the Porters Creek formation and unconformably underlies the Fearn Springs formation, or the Ackerman formation where the Fearn Springs is absent. The Betheden is of Paleocene or Eocene age.
