Summary:

The Belle Rive Coal Member of the Mattoon Formation of the McLeansboro Group is here named in Jefferson Co., IL. It lies 400 ft above the Shoal Creek Limestone Member of the Bond Formation and 35 to 40 ft below the Opdyke Coal Member of the Mattoon. It is tentatively correlated with the Loudon Coal Member in Fayette Co. to the north. Thickness at type section is 2 ft. Age is Late Pennsylvanian (Missourian).
